Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing announced a partnership this week to create the next generation hypercar.
The project, codenamed ‘AM-RB 001’ is to be a collaboration between Red Bull Racing’s chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey and Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, bringing the classic and signature sports car design of Aston Martin together with the cutting edge F1 technology of Red Bull Racing to produce the ultimate hypercar.
The project will combine and unite some of the world’s best aerodynamics, composite experts and manufacturing masters bringing anticipation and excitement to customers and enthusiasts worldwide.
The collaboration will see the return of the Aston Martin logo to grand prix racing for the first time since 1960 throughout the 2016 season. They will make their debut at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Talking about the project Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Racing Principal said “It’s an incredible project and also realises a dream and vision long held by Adrian to design a road car. We are very much looking forward to what I’m certain will be a successful partnership.”
Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: “Formula One offers the ultimate global stage to build wider awareness of the Aston Martin brand. However, this partnership will deliver even more than that when the hypercar that Aston Martin and Adrian Newey are in the process of developing hits the road. Between Q by Aston Martin Advanced, Red Bull Advanced Technologies and project partner AF Racing AG, we are going to create a car that will excite and stir the imaginations of the car designers of the future and a global audience of sports car enthusiasts”
Adrian Newey has a Formula 1 career spanning nearly 30 years and said that from very early on he always wanted to be involved in the design of racing cars. From the age of 6 he has had a dream of being involved in the design of a super car and that dream has now become a reality.
The project is expected to be ready in 2 years.
This was not the only news from Aston Martin this week as they also announced the formation of Aston Martin Consulting (AMC), an initiative to provide other companies with access to their expertise in design, engineering and manufacturing.
