The construction industry has evolved significantly with many new and improved methods such as structural steel fabrication. This process, along with welding, is demanding and you should only consult experienced fabricators as it requires expert knowledge, skills and resources.

For a successful project, from manufacturing structural steel beams and steel balustrades to components and equipment, every good fabricator should follow a specific process. A less experienced company may not be able to perform the necessary tasks which could compromise product viability.

Considering the rapid advancements in technology, it’s easy to forget some of the revolutionary inventions of the 20th century. Some of these inventions have resulted in products or services we take for granted today.

Many emerging technologies can be attributed to one, or several, earlier inventions. A prime example of an obsolete technology that has transformed the modern world is cathode ray tube monitors. While it was prominent in earlier years, they were quickly replaced when LCD and plasma screens were invented.

Graphene seems to be making headlines across various industries and Highways England has also joined in. They are partnering with the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) in Manchester to investigate the use of graphene on surfaces. The idea is to find out whether adding graphene to roads and pavements could result in decreased deterioration.

It all started when Prof Sir Andre Geim and Prof Sir Kostya Novoselov first isolated the material at Manchester University in 2004. GEIC opened in December 2018 to specialise in the rapid development and upscaling of graphene and other applications for 2D materials.

We define powder coating as the process of applying a powder material to the surface using an electrostatic or compressed air method. It’s also one of the most advanced techniques for applying a protective and decorative finish to nearly any type of metal.

More companies are turning to powder coating as it produces a dry, clean and highly durable finish, without using volatile organic compounds. Overall, it is more economical as it saves customers time, effort and money in the long run.

Aviation connects the world by continuously transporting people and goods across the globe in no time at all. While it may appear efficient, climate change has become a clear topic of debate in society due to a concern over plane emissions.

Large manufacturers in aerospace and aviation are investing more in sustainability as emission targets are increasing. A bold move by Rolls-Royce buying the electric aerospace arm of Siemens clearly shows this intent. In fact, this acquisition could speed up electrification in the aviation sector.

The term “fabrication” means to make something from raw materials whether it’s wood, plastic or certain types of metals. Several industries currently benefit from aluminium fabrication which refers mostly to the construction of metal structures. Choosing a material is a critical decision in all aspects of the production but so is the finishing process.

Although you can fabricate any metal, aluminium is considered one of the most common resulting in big demand for aluminium fabrication services across the world. It’s not surprising if you consider that aluminium is all around us in our homes and office buildings. Some of the most common are aluminium gates and aluminium frameworks used for doors, windows and even showers.

An engineering company can only be successful with high-quality custom fabrication coupled with expert knowledge, experience and continuous investment. We’re not only talking about investing in equipment but also staff training and hiring. In order to provide the quality and service excellence customers deserve, equipment and staff must be of the highest level.

There are three core factors that determine success in manufacturing and that includes production cost, quality and speed. While each component plays a crucial role, manufacturers must fully commit to all three to reach and remain within the top tier.

Let’s take a look at some of the recent fabrication projects at PRV Engineering and find out more about coded welding and finishing.

A flying taxi is once again taking centre stage as Alaka’i Technologies have developed the Skai prototype. It is a hydrogen-powered eVTOL flying taxi with an impressive 400-mile range that can comfortably seat five passengers. What’s more is that they are actually in the process of getting FAA certification which means it could be in our skies sooner than we think.

With only a few days until the 2019 Subcon Show at NEC Birmingham, many exhibitors are gearing up for another exciting event. PRV Engineering will once again be in attendance and exhibiting the best of UK Manufacturing at stand E17. The success of previous years have attracted many of UK’s finest making this a must-attend event (June 4-6).

Considered as the world’s first real hybrid airplane, the Faradair BEHA (Bio-Electric-Hybrid-Aircraft) is a “triple box-wing design concept”. It’s a clever combination of electric motors and a bio-diesel engine fitted with several energy saving and recovery technologies. This includes solar panels on all flight surfaces and high-lift, low-speed flight capabilities.

The concept was first realised back in 2014 when UK firm, Faradair, proposed a Bio-Electric-Hybrid-Aircraft (BEHA). They have now announced that their plans are in place for a small BEHA airliner. The hybrid aircraft could be ready to take flight in 2025 as one of the world’s most environmentally friendly airplanes.
