An engineering company can only be successful with high-quality custom fabrication coupled with expert knowledge, experience and continuous investment. We’re not only talking about investing in equipment but also staff training and hiring. In order to provide the quality and service excellence customers deserve, equipment and staff must be of the highest level.

There are three core factors that determine success in manufacturing and that includes production cost, quality and speed. While each component plays a crucial role, manufacturers must fully commit to all three to reach and remain within the top tier.

Let’s take a look at some of the recent fabrication projects at PRV Engineering and find out more about coded welding and finishing.

A flying taxi is once again taking centre stage as Alaka’i Technologies have developed the Skai prototype. It is a hydrogen-powered eVTOL flying taxi with an impressive 400-mile range that can comfortably seat five passengers. What’s more is that they are actually in the process of getting FAA certification which means it could be in our skies sooner than we think.

With only a few days until the 2019 Subcon Show at NEC Birmingham, many exhibitors are gearing up for another exciting event. PRV Engineering will once again be in attendance and exhibiting the best of UK Manufacturing at stand E17. The success of previous years have attracted many of UK’s finest making this a must-attend event (June 4-6).

Considered as the world’s first real hybrid airplane, the Faradair BEHA (Bio-Electric-Hybrid-Aircraft) is a “triple box-wing design concept”. It’s a clever combination of electric motors and a bio-diesel engine fitted with several energy saving and recovery technologies. This includes solar panels on all flight surfaces and high-lift, low-speed flight capabilities.

The concept was first realised back in 2014 when UK firm, Faradair, proposed a Bio-Electric-Hybrid-Aircraft (BEHA). They have now announced that their plans are in place for a small BEHA airliner. The hybrid aircraft could be ready to take flight in 2025 as one of the world’s most environmentally friendly airplanes.

For the few who don’t know, McLaren Cars were founded in 1985 which later became McLaren Automotive. Today, they remain a successful British car manufacturer based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey where their primary focus is on sports cars.

In 2017, McLaren constructed a £50m McLaren Composites Technology Centre (MCTC) at the Advanced Manufacturing Park between Sheffield and Rotherham. The facility is responsible for building carbon fibre chassis for all McLaren road cars.

McLaren Automotive became a 100% owned subsidiary of the wider McLaren Group in July 2017 and recently celebrated selling their 20,000th car. It will be hand-assembled at the McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Surrey.

Waterjet cutting is often used during the fabrication process of machine parts. This industrial tool is capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using a very high-pressure jet or stream of water. A mixture of water and an abrasive substance is also used in many applications. The highly versatile cutting method produces much less waste than other forms.

Waterjet cutting is also more environmentally friendly as it doesn’t produce dust, chippings or gas like other cutting methods. Engineering companies are implementing waterjet technology as a cost-effective, complementary machining method to cut parts to near-precise requirements. This greatly helps minimise waste, maximise raw material usage and accelerates overall production.

Over the next few decades, the world’s energy landscape as we know it will change dramatically. One decisive change is the ever-growing demand for power which brings about the need for new and better energy innovations.

Wherever there is an increase in access to reliable and affordable energy, people want to enjoy a higher standard of living. While that is certainly a good thing, at the same time, many of the world’s population lack access to even the most basic energy services.

For some time now, many industries have taken to Augmented Reality (AR), or at least, thought about the technology. And why not as the AR market is expected to reach $60,55 billion by 2023 as more tech giants are linked to investments pushing the growth. Some of the major players involved in Augmented Reality investments and acquisitions include Google, Apple, Facebook, Samsung and Intel.

Augmented Reality is also known as spatial computing which is rapidly growing and expanding into several business and industrial applications. Spatial computing is a broad term used to describe how humans interact with computers in the same surroundings. This means that an Augmented Reality system makes it feel as if digital media is physically present thanks to interactive design and gesture.

Metal fabrication refers to processes involving cutting, shaping or moulding a raw material (metal) into a final product. Metal components are available in a wide variety of dimensions and materials such as sheet metal, metal rods and metal bars. The metal fabrication process involves a wide range of skills and disciplines from profiling, bending and forming, cropping, coded welding to assembly and painting.

It is, without a doubt, a specialist process that requires expertly trained staff and advanced machinery. Coincidentally, those are also the two main factors to consider when looking for a trusted engineering company. While modern technology, machinery and computer aided design software have pushed fabrication services to the next level, there is no substitute for experience.
