Metalwork Fabrication at its Very Best from PRV Engineering

Metalwork Fabrication is a skilled, specialist operation, and not one that enough people first associate with PRV Engineering. Maybe that’s because our expertise in other engineering services such a deep hole drilling get more publicity. But here at PRV Engineering, we offer a complete metalwork engineering service that includes the very best in metalwork fabrication.

It might come as some surprise to learn that our metalwork fabrication department regularly turns out a whole range of beautifully finished, fabricated metal products that include:

Deep Hole Drilling – The Stuff Dreams are Made of?

Deep hole drilling, (sometimes referred to as Gun-drilling), is a specialist machining operation that requires a specialist engineering company to carry it out. It is used when high precision round bores are crucial. The process produces holes that can be controlled within very tight tolerances. It gives far greater accuracy than conventional drilling methods ever will.

PRV-Engineering are one of the few skilled engineering service suppliers to offer a deep hole drilling facility here in the UK.  The service can be supplied as an integral part of an overall manufacturing project. It can also be offered as a sub-contracted service for clients who either do not have the in-house capability themselves, or who have, but do not have the capacity.

Finishing with a flourish might sound a little flamboyant. But precision engineering isn’t exactly the sexiest of subjects, so please allow us at PRV Engineering a little leeway, and an opportunity to indulge ourselves!

Finishing any engineering job properly is just as important as any other operation along the production cycle. You’ll have gathered by now that we are talking about engineering finishing rather than simply closing down the job file and archiving it away. No, the sort of finishing that we allude to in this context is painting, both wet paint and electro powder coat.

PRV Engineering have come a long way since our lowly beginnings, when we first set up in 1986 manufacturing tamper proof Lids for the Metal Packaging Industry. We are now one of the leading suppliers of engineering services in Europe, and the journey has been long, and arduous, but ultimately rewarding.

Onsite installation-maintenance is a facility that helps to turn an engineering service provider like PRV Engineering, from an excellent choice of supplier, into a great one. Design and manufacture are great skills to have, and we are proud to be able to boast that we have both in abundance. But going to another organisation’s site, and carrying out quality onsite intallation-maintence work under demanding circumstances, is not something that many engineering companies are capable of doing.
First of all, carrying out on site installation-maintenance work itself requires great knowledge, skill, and ability, and not just a small amount of confidence in your own ability. But you’ve also got to have the right mindset. When your engineers are out there in the big wide world, they are representing your business. It’s therefore very important that as well as possessing the requisite skills and experience, they also know how to deal with the client too. And if our clients are anything to go by, they don’t suffer fools gladly. So we ensure that our engineers are polite, display good manners, and act with propriety at all times.

5 Axis Machining – CNC Engineering at its Most Exacting by PRV Engineering

5 Axis machining is the one of the most advanced components of Computer Numerical Control, (or CNC for short as it is more popularly known in the engineering world), metal engineering. CNC machining has been around now for several decades. It heralded the arrival of pre-programmed automation on a scale of accuracy hitherto unknown. Hardly surprising then that PRV Engineering, one of the engineering industry’s top exponents of top quality engineering services, should be at the forefront of this technology; not only here in the UK, but across mainland Europe too.

As engineering technology progressed, it was only a matter of time before machining in all available planes became a possibility. Having computerised control that allows the pre-programming of very complicated operations in all five axis, has now been taken to the ultimate level with some stunning 5 axis machinery coming onto the market – none better that PRV Engineering’s travelling vertical column machinery centre, the Mazak VTC800/30SR.

One-Stop-Shop – PRV Engineering Turn the Dream into a Reality

The One-Stop-Shop is many buyers’ dream of simplifying their purchasing workload; especially in the engineering industry, where in-depth industry knowledge is critical, and hard-won job experience is essential. It’s perhaps one of the reasons that all too often, many companies that claim to offer a one-stop-shop service fail to deliver, and simply do not live up to expectations. But here at PRV Engineering, we are the exception to the rule. We always deliver; and not just in the sense of meeting critical deadlines; we deliver top quality too!

The problem for many companies that aspire to becoming a one-stop-shop supplier is that they turn themselves into a Jack of all trades. But in the engineering supply arena, being a jack of all trades just doesn’t cut the mustard; especially in the fields that PRV Engineering are primarily involved in, namely: The Railway Industry, The Busbar Industry, and the Deep Hole Drilling Industry. In these specialised engineering fields in particular, being a “Jack” is simply not good enough, you need to be the Ace – and we are!

Thanks to the Industrial Revolution, the production and even design of nearly every product that companies use throughout the world moves at high speed. During the 20th century, most companies considered manufacturing as being an ‘all or nothing approach.’ In other words, creating new products (manufacturing) was a complicated process that required the proper designs and ultimately the right moulds that would be used in their manufacture. It was often too costly to create moulds and products for anything less than large orders.

Today, the global population has moved beyond seven billion and even though there are more people than ever, there is also a growing need for products to be manufactured on a smaller scale. We are PRV Engineering are often called upon to create these small scale or even jobs where we manufacture one off parts.

Throughout Great Britain, and actually around the world, governments –both national and localised- have been seeking out signs of economic recovery and growth. Investors and legislators have been carefully watching all economic reports and indicators, interpreting data and attempting to provide assistance to companies and industries that show signs of strength. Thanks to PRV Engineering in New Inn, there are signs that manufacturing and engineering in the country are beginning to expand.

Even though copper is the most popular choice for use in busbars, and used very often in other electrical applications because it is more resistant to rust and corrosion than other metals, this doesn’t mean that it won’t oxidize over time.

When metals oxidize, the resistance in the conductive metal will increase, requiring more power to be used to carry current along the surface. When the copper oxidizes beyond a certain point, the metal can begin to flake and fall apart.

Manufacturing products for what is considered ‘normal,’ or everyday environments has become so commonplace that it can be all too easy to forget that there needs to be a number of considerations for manufacturing products that will be subjected to ‘harsh’ environments.

The specifications and the approach to manufacturing under these harsh conditions must be different. The components that are used, the metals, and other considerations are very often different when working on products that will be used in these harsher, more challenging environments.
