CNC Milling Machines are used to shape metal and other solid materials using specialised cutting tools programmed and managed by Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems. The machining process creates a specific part or product with the help of CAD software, short for Computer-Aided Design.

Today, you won’t find many items that haven’t gone through CNC milling machines as most sectors rely on this specialised process. Some examples are cars, aeroplanes, machine parts, moulds for household machines, toys and even prosthetics. All of these are likely to have one or several CNC-machined components.

3D printing, often referred to as Additive Manufacturing (AM) is the sequential layering of materials using computers to create three-dimensional shapes. The process appears relatively simple as a 3D digital model of the item is created. This is done either through computer aided design (CAD) or using a 3D scanner.

The printer reads the design and “prints” successive layers of a medium, either liquid, powder, or sheet material. These are joined together or fused to create the final product or item. While the 3d printing process can sometimes be slow, it can create almost any shape which is particularly useful for geometrically complex components.

The future of construction lies with robots getting down and dirty while implementing 3D printing technology. And now, 3D printing has found yet another purpose with the US military building barracks using a large 3D printer.

A glimpse into the future of mountain rescue could mean replacing the image of our furry friend, the St Bernard. No surprise really as technology is forever advancing and with that, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) made from carbon fiber with a 2.2 meter wingspan.

A team of students at the prestigious University of Warwick School of Engineering in Coventry, England, has designed an unmanned aerial vehicle. The core concept is to deliver immediate aid and equipment to people in need before a rescue team arrives. These UAV’s will essentially be the first responders.

On Tuesday 6th of June, the Subcon show for 2017 kicks off at the Birmingham NEC. Subcon is the UK’s premier subcontract manufacturing supply chain show and this year is not to be missed. The Subcon show will run alongside the Advanced Manufacturing and The Engineer Design & Innovation Show. The show is until 8 June so you have plenty of time to rub shoulders with the best of the best.

Space Exploration – Beyond Imagination

We are in a race for space travel once again and through the imagination of movie producers and the real advancements in technology, we are all hooked. Movies like Star Trek, Star Wars and a few others did a great job at capturing our feelings and imagination. Even though it may have been science fiction, it’s the sheer possibility of space exploration that drives our love of astronomy and our desire to learn more.

Space is not infinite and somehow there must be an end to it. But if there is, nobody on Earth has figured out where it is, at least not yet. The only thing that has brought us to “the end of the universe” is our limited ability to see deeper into space.

Drones have been around for some time but the on-going technological development in advanced engineering is astonishing. Can you imagine a swarm of robotic and autonomous insects?

When you think of mosquitoes, there really aren’t many good things to say. They often carry potentially lethal diseases such as malaria. Mosquitoes are annoying and their bites can be really painful, itchy and irritating.

This is not what Zoologists from the University of Oxford and the Royal Veterinary Hospital in Japan are focusing on though. In fact, they’ve discovered something very interesting.

Investment in equipment and staff is extremely high on the list of priorities for PRV Engineering. Quality and customer service excellence are 2 of the most important things for the company and to provide those things equipment and staff need to be of the highest level.

In 2016 more new machinery has been installed at PRV Engineering and staff have completed training so they are fully up to speed on the operation and capabilities of each machine.

Hydro-abrasive waterjet machinery along with large format machining equipment were the latest additions to the workshop floor.
