PRV Engineering Elaborates On The Latest Machinery To Be Installed

At the start of the year, we reported that once again PRV Engineering had invested in new machinery. The latest addition is the large format machining equipment and we thought we’d tell you a little about why we chose the equipment we did.

First and foremost, the reason behind our continued investment in staff, premises and equipment is our desire to provide the best service possible to our customers. Quality is top of our agenda and that means both in terms of the product produced and the service provided – they go hand in hand.

Regeneration projects are taking place across Newport as part of a drive to improve existing sites, facilities and properties, as well as build new ones. The aim is to make improvements, both in the city centre and wider geography that will create a better environment for people to live, work and visit.

One of the major regeneration projects, Friars Walk is due to open next week on November 12th. The 390,000 square foot leisure and retail centre will be a major benefit to the local economy and is bringing top names brands like Debenhams, Marks and Spencer, Mothercare and Cineworld to the city. Gourmet food outlets and restaurants are also signed up and ready to open next week. A recent recruitment fair for the centre attracted over 4000 job seekers.

However, as we understand from experience, investment is not just about machinery and a new-look shop floor. You don’t automatically become more efficient.

Yes, it can certainly help to capture efficiencies. However, the gains could prove transient if you don’t look at your business, from top to bottom, and prepare accordingly for the future.

Investment, expansion and employment have been the buzz words coming out of PRV Engineering over the past 24 months.

In 2013, managing director Simon Jones invested £1.25million in the company to not only maintain the growth of PRV Engineering, but to ensure that in the future, there would be employment opportunities too.

The addition of an 8000 sq ft building and a 10 tonne overhead crane capacity at the Pontypool site, enabled PRV Engineering to re-enter the fabrication and construction markets. The state of the art equipment made it possible to provide potential customers with a vast range of machined components.

In terms of the company’s decision to invest in people, last year was also a productive year. PRV Engineering employed seven new members of staff in 2013, taking the total number of personnel to 51. Now, that number is set to rise, once again.

Although the current recession has created difficulties in business, PRV Engineering has spent the last year establishing a platform on which they can confidently support their ambitious plans- 2013 is about building for the future.

CEO Simon Jones has invested £1.25million in the company over that 12 month period, primarily to increase the size and capacity of the unit from 29,000 to 38,000 square feet. As part of the overall development, PRV Engineering have also installed a state of the art crane with a 10 tonne overhead capacity. “These are exciting time for us,” said Simon, who confirmed that PRV has also returned to the construction industry from which they retracted several years ago.

The new plating facility that PRV Engineering now has is yet another example of Simon Jones’ (Chief Exec of PRV) determination to offer the company’s clients the most comprehensive service through continuous investment into new areas.

The Importance of Finishing

Finishing is one of the most important areas in the engineering sector. Components that have been carefully machined to the highest standards and tightest specifications can still be scrapped if the finishing is not up to standard. It’s one of the reasons that PRV Engineering prefer to do as much manufacturing as possible in-house. The new plating facility, specialising in tin and silver plating, is another sure step in this direction.
