Deep hole drilling (DHD) is a stress measurement technique used in engineering materials and components to measure locked-in and applied stresses. The process measures residual stresses at a microscopic level with penetration of over 750 millimeters (30 in), without destroying the original component.

You may already know what electroplating is but what you may not know is how it works. Electroplating can be described as a common metal finishing or improving process used in a number of industrial applications.

It’s not new though as the earliest form, which became the modern electroplating process, occurred in the early 19th century. At this time, the development of bigger electric generators meant higher currents which drastically improved the process. With the advancement of industrial and manufacturing practices over the past two hundred years, this process has greatly evolved.

When you think of mosquitoes, there really aren’t many good things to say. They often carry potentially lethal diseases such as malaria. Mosquitoes are annoying and their bites can be really painful, itchy and irritating.

This is not what Zoologists from the University of Oxford and the Royal Veterinary Hospital in Japan are focusing on though. In fact, they’ve discovered something very interesting.

Investment in equipment and staff is extremely high on the list of priorities for PRV Engineering. Quality and customer service excellence are 2 of the most important things for the company and to provide those things equipment and staff need to be of the highest level.

In 2016 more new machinery has been installed at PRV Engineering and staff have completed training so they are fully up to speed on the operation and capabilities of each machine.

Hydro-abrasive waterjet machinery along with large format machining equipment were the latest additions to the workshop floor.

Steel pipe and tube manufacturing will restart at Tredegar from next month. The decision from Liberty House, who rescued the site when it went into administration in 2015 forms part of their ‘Greensteel’ strategy and is the seventh steelworks re-opened in as many months.

In its drive the reform the British steel industry the reopened plant will form the latest link in a supply value chain using green energy to upcycle scrap steel from the melting through to the engineering of advanced products.

Hot rolled coil for the plant will come from the rolling mill at Liberty Steel Newport, itself restarted as part of the same plan in October last year.

The UK has one of the highest dependencies on imports of the core product in the developed world and it is hoped that Tredegar’s output will replace some of that one million tonnes of steel currently imported.

Over the past two years there have been huge investments in equipment and premises to ensure that PRV Engineering can provide the best customer service possible.

1.5 million pounds worth of state of the art CNC Multi Axis/Multi Discipline machining centres have been installed, a new temperature controlled inspection facility and an 8000 sq ft extension with have also been completed.

Finishing is one of the most important areas in the engineering sector. Components that have been carefully machined to the highest standards and tightest specifications can still be scrapped if the finishing is not up to standard. To ensure the best finishes are provided to clients, PRV Engineering decided not to rely on external companies for their plating requirements and instead, bought their own plating facility, ensuring that they could supply a full One Stop Shop service to clients.

Metal Fabrication and its Importance in our Lives

The word “fabrication” means to make something from raw material. In the case of metal fabrication, that raw material is, unsurprisingly, metal. The material used in metal fabrication will however have already been processed from its true raw state into a usable raw material format such as metal sheet, rod, or bar.

Fabrication differs from assembling. Rather than using a processed raw material, the assembly process uses parts or components specifically made for the purpose. Assembly is however an operation that is included in the art of fabrication.
