Steel Framework

29 Sep 2017

Structural steel is a type of steel used in construction and manufacturing. It has been the primary choice for most builders, engineers, contractors and structural steel fabricators. So many industries rely on steel products and fabrication services due its quality and reliability.

PRV Engineering has been supplying structural steelwork and steel fabrications into the construction industry for over twenty years. We manufacture and install high quality products including bespoke platforms, balconies, balustrades and handrails in both mild steel and stainless steel.

Think of structural steel framed buildings and the sort of things that come to mind are probably, office sky scraper buildings or big warehouses and agricultural buildings. The sorts of thing you see in big cities or on the outskirts when new out of town shopping malls go up. But steel framed structures are commonly used across a whole range of construction projects; garages, residential housing and short term temporary structures all make good use of steel frame construction methods because they are durable, flexible, cost effective and sustainable.

This week it’s been announced that Tata Steel could slash up to 1,200 jobs across Scunthorpe and Soctland. Caparo Industries has called in the administrators and now up to 1,700 of their staff are facing real uncertainty about their futures. The UK Steel industry is in crisis and many commentators are rushing to blame China. But the fact of the matter is that the global Steel industry is in crisis, not just the UK, with many nations overproducing and even our closest neighbors in the EU undercutting British produced Steel. At a time when unprecedented trade deals are being fought for and signed across the globe we have to ask if we should still be trying to use China as a scapegoat or if it’s time to reconsider our economic ties with the emergent power.

Will this be the way to solve overcrowding in big cities?

For years there has been concern over the space available for new buildings, whether it’s housing or industrial. Skyscrapers have got taller and taller and the space between buildings has reduced. But still, this isn’t solving the problem of overcrowding and in some countries planning authorities are becoming uncomfortable with the higher structures.

Living like the fictional Wombles, ‘underground’ is increasingly looking as though it could become a reality at some point in the future. We travel underground regularly, even using tunnels to get to other countries, so why not take that next step?

Advances in building construction have introduced many new and improved options including the use of steel framed building construction. These steel structures are formed through steel framework fabrication. The advantages of steel as a structural design material are well documented. Advantages include the strength-weight ratio that allows steel to bear great weights and ductility, which is the ability to withstand stress for a long period of time and bend without breaking.

Why go for steel framework?
All these same advantages are found in steel frameworks, however the use of steel frames in general has many advantages.
