The automotive world has always been captivated by innovation, and the Lotus Theory 1 Concept, a futuristic electric sports car, pushes the boundaries of what electric vehicles (EVs) can achieve. Lotus, renowned for its lightweight sports cars, is introducing a bold new design concept that brings technology, performance, and sustainability together in a way that could shape the future of automotive engineering.
Using hydrogen as a fuel poses many challenges due to its high flammability, diffusivity and very low density as a gas. Storing it is another issue along with the difficulty in processing it as some methods are not sustainable. However, all that could be a thing of the past with a new small 22-lb hydrogen engine that could effectively replace the internal combustion engine.
3D Printing has come a long way in the last few years and the latest development involves mass-producible electric cars. In 2018, Italy’s XEV announced they were partnering with Chinese 3D printing firm, Polymaker, to build a small, inexpensive electric city car called the LSEV.
Russia is the latest country to announce launching a new electric vehicle. Russian Engineering and Manufacturing Company (REMC) is launching the first locally manufactured electric vehicle, naming it Zetta.
Early reports suggest it could be the cheapest electric vehicle ever built with an expected price tag of just $7,000 (£5,400). Zetta is short for Zero Emission Terra Transport Asset and should be ready for launch early in 2020 after the final certification stages.
The World Automotive Conference was held in Istanbul on October 17 2019, where experts presented possible solutions for keeping up with future trends in the automotive sector.
From managing global economic challenges to overcoming changing industry demands, 50 speakers added tremendous value to the conversation. There are various issues plaguing the automotive sector including too much traffic, too many cars, bad drivers, inadequate public transport, air pollution and not enough parking.
These may not be the trends that are directly shaping the automotive industry but they are important nonetheless. It clearly indicates some of the consumer feedback which the automotive sector needs to respond to.
The electric vehicle industry is forever growing and now reaching the aviation world with start-up, Zunum Aero. The Boeing and JetBlue-backed company plans to launch their hybrid electric plane by 2022 flying 12 passengers 500 miles. Ambitious maybe but according to reports, Zunum Aero is well on the way to achieving their goal.
Earlier this month JetSuite signed up as the launch customer for Zunum’s first hybrid electric plane. The Southern California charter air service announced a deal to
One wouldn’t normally associate electric military vehicles with performance and durability but this off-roader is in a class of its own. Late last year Nikola Corp showcased the world’s most advanced electric UTV and recently, the US marines had a go. Electric military vehicles have never looked this good and fun to drive.
