Every week we cover something new or interesting but few are as ambitious as this new skyscraper design in Dubai. This incredible feat of engineering (concept or not) comes courtesy of Turkish architect, Hayri Atak who confirmed that this building would be able to rotate with the wind to generate electricity. Does this mean our reality is slowly catching up with science-fiction or is it a bridge too far?
The robotics industry has advanced tremendously in recent years with several cutting edge developments. Now, researchers have created a hydrogel-based, light-powered robot that swims in response to a direct light source.
This particular robot, the OsciBot, is attracted to and only powered by a constant visible light source. It doesn’t require a battery pack or power tether of any kind. This type of technology could revolutionise the maritime industry in terms of energy harvesting and propulsion in the future.
Over the next few decades, the world’s energy landscape as we know it will change dramatically. One decisive change is the ever-growing demand for power which brings about the need for new and better energy innovations.
Wherever there is an increase in access to reliable and affordable energy, people want to enjoy a higher standard of living. While that is certainly a good thing, at the same time, many of the world’s population lack access to even the most basic energy services.
